About

Vision

Supporting the diversity and vibrancy of the community by hosting inclusive and brave spaces for connection, education, celebration and wellness.

Mission

The KLUB nurtures community pride, solidarity and wellness by hosting public programs, events, and an inclusive and accessible gathering space for intergenerational 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and allies in Bawating (Sault Ste. Marie) and across the Algoma District.

Our Values

Queer Liberation

Our commitment lies in uplifting and celebrating the diverse identities within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Accessiblility

We are dedicated to making our spaces accessible, recognizing we have much to learn and implement to achieve full accessibility.

Wellness

We prioritize wellness and create trauma-sensitive, harm-reduction-based, body-positive programs supporting physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Forever Learning

We are dedicated to fostering a culture of lifelong learning, where we continually seek knowledge, understanding, and growth to better serve our community.

Indigenous Solidarity

We are committed to solidarity with Indigenous communities, respecting their sovereignty, rights, and culture. We strive to decolonize our spaces and center Indigenous voices.

Active Allyship

We engage in intentional actions to support and advocate not only for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community but also for other marginalized and targeted communities.

Founding Story

At 27, Katrina Francella (they/them) founded The Klub, driven by their passion for community care and wellness, and a background in hospitality, fitness, and health promotion. Their journey began in their nana’s garage during college, evolving a fitness venture into a community center for recreation, art, and culture. Katrina holds a diploma in Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure and a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion. As the Founding Executive Director, Katrina has worn many hats, including Operations Manager, Facilitator, Event Coordinator, Peer Mentor, Community Outreach, Communications, Bookkeeping, Marketing, Fundraising, Maintenance, and Grant Writing. Their lived experiences with mental illness, neurodivergency, chronic pain, suicide, eating disorders, and addiction deeply inform The Klub’s mission.

Recognizing the lack of 2SLGBTQIA+ resources in Sault Ste. Marie when Katrina came out in their mid-20s, they established The Klub, officially gaining nonprofit status in January 2021, making it the first 2SLGBTQIA+ led nonprofit in the area with a physical space. The Klub aims to create a permanent community center, offering essential support and fostering inclusivity. Katrina’s journey, including coming out as pansexual and non-binary and navigating life with disabilities, shapes The Klub’s evolution from an 2SLGBTQIA+ youth group to a Community Center for all ages. Their genuine desire for 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion and social progress drives The Klub to provide missing services and nurture a sense of belonging within under-served groups in the community.
